Speaker 2:

Hello, this is Panic and this is Sarah and you are listening to Music Elixir a podcast between two friends discussing their favorite Asian artists in music. Hello everybody, welcome to another episode of Music Elixir. I'm Sarah and with me is hey you panic.

Speaker 1:

Yeah.

Speaker 2:

I gotta do something every time you say it.

Speaker 1:

I was gonna say lately Sarah's been doing like special effects, voiceover, special effects Working on our new career.

Speaker 2:

She's trying things out.

Speaker 1:

Hey, why not? You know, hey, I hustle.

Speaker 2:

I think I'd be good for commercials and whatnot on. There you go.

Speaker 1:

That could be a great site to hustle. I know right, I got the equipment I know I could just put it up. Post it out there on Fiverr and say hey, sell this for this. How much you know, because you could do that. Oh my God that would be too funny. Oh, my God, I just got an idea what. Okay, that's the. I'm not gonna say much because, girl, you know very much, there's people out there watching what we're doing, yeah, I know, and then they're doing the same differently, and I'm like what?

Speaker 2:

Yeah, what you sent me last week. I was like what, wait a minute.

Speaker 1:

Hello.

Speaker 2:

The image that you sent me. Yeah, yeah, you remember Okay.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, yeah, yeah, remember I know you had actually brought to my attention in the past and I'm just Just from that I was just like, oh please, oh my God, no, whatever, you know what. But then when that happened again and saw it again, I was like wait a minute, this was a thing that I used to do in the past. And now this other entertainment station, now it's doing it with a twist. You said that with a twist.

Speaker 2:

With a twist? Yeah, same. Thing just one thing different oh my God, oh yeah, no, but I was talking about you had sent me a picture of something that looked very similar to our logo.

Speaker 1:

Oh, that's another one too. Oh yeah, no, I was talking to about one You're talking about. So you know while we are innovators, we are the thinkers and the creators that people will love to just mimic, and I am so proud and happy that these two ladies right here females because I do want to make that stress out that we have the way to entertain the public.

Speaker 1:

Yes we do. We know what really brings the real fans to our networks, because you know you and I were a network. You know I got my OK Asia and then you and I have musical lixer. You know Our content drives what they want. So you know what fine you do. You you think like it's your thing, because I'm just two entertainment companies that do follow us?

Speaker 2:

Yes, they do. That's what made it a little more sort of shocking. I was like, could you even try and pretend that you're not?

Speaker 1:

following. But you know, I mean, I don't mind doing connections. You know, networking, that's one thing.

Speaker 2:

Oh, yeah, yeah.

Speaker 1:

Especially in this field, networking is the top thing Always. Networking and collaborations are very happening and you know we have done collaborations with one, yeah.

Speaker 2:

Well, and it's good to you know, share ideas and work on things, but, like there's certain things that you just I don't know. You sort of like one of them in particular, was so close to what we actually do, yes, and what we have, I was like, wow, that's just, I don't know. Copyright infringement, I don't know.

Speaker 1:

You feel like you want to do that right, yes, and let's not forget that this other person was interviewed by I'm not going to say who, because then everybody will know who I'm talking about and then this person started to describe a song that you love, which is hardly heard, and it was described to the T that we have talked about way previously, I know.

Speaker 2:

I was like this typical song that I remember being like wait. Isn't that like word for word what I said? Exactly yeah, and definitely on a song that's not very common.

Speaker 1:

No, exactly at all, and it was never heard outside of Japan until it became available on streaming platforms. And now, all of a sudden, I love this, I'm okay. I really want to go down to that. I just want to say you know what, you're welcome, you are so welcome that we are actually helping you achieve what you want because, like I said, we are the creators, we are the masterminds over here. And, yes, this is my Pisces villain coming out and I'm being kind of classy to it because I'm not going to put you out there. Oh yeah, like they say in Puerto Rico, no, so I'm going to put it in the middle. No, because that will not be classic. But you know the way that we're talking, the way I'm talking to, the way I'm speaking.

Speaker 1:

This person they should know and they should feel it in their core.

Speaker 2:

Yes, definitely.

Speaker 1:

How much of a copycat you are.

Speaker 2:

Well, there have been a few things because, like I mean, I use a lot of sort of I believe they're called colloquialisms, but I think that's the word or you know, just like slaying things like that that aren't real common out in the, you know not even slang there's sort of.

Speaker 2:

that's why I think it's the other thing. They're sort of older terms in ways of saying things that most people now don't say. I have a very I don't know if it's the history and all the old text and stuff that I read, so I like to use things that you know, like Shakespeare said it this way or whatever yeah. So when somebody else uses the same term or phrase, that I'm like, really I don't know Exactly, that's not a run of mill phrase.

Speaker 1:

Exactly.

Speaker 2:

That's why I was like wait a minute. Yeah, I know this, I said this. That was me quoting, whatever you know Jean Austin Shakespeare.

Speaker 1:

Oh, my goodness. Oh yeah, I hope they have felt the sharp end of my tongue. And actually now that I'm thinking about is three people, not two, right? Because now I'm thinking more, I'm like oh no, wait a minute, there's this other one too.

Speaker 2:

Yeah that's the. That was the one I'm saying about the odd phrases that I use, my old fashioned way of speaking. So, yes, that's what I was.

Speaker 1:

I'm telling you, there's another one. Bow down to me, bitches. I pray what is good for you.

Speaker 2:

OK, I guess you know we could be de lulule, but there's just sometimes too many coincidences to be that is not even a girl. These are coincidence, right, but they're, they're beyond coincidence you know, so Tell me. So, despite how we've just started, this is not actually a ransom. Ramblings no, but you don't get Guess what.

Speaker 1:

One of these songs really brings out the female empowerment yes, and you know this is. This song inspired me to actually just be like you know what? Ok, ok, this is so perfect for today. I know I'm like, yeah, all right, oh, man, not on the rest of made us know you Don't look like no, yeah, whatever, mm. Hmm, just to remind you, you don't know how I look, but I know a lot of you. I know how you look. That's what I have to say. Ok, actually, it's true.

Speaker 2:

Although my, I have my profile pic, so you know, although that doesn't quite represent me either. So the glasses are wrong, the hair is wrong.

Speaker 1:

You can have different glasses, your hair will be different, you can be bald, yeah.

Speaker 2:

You know, actually that reminds me. So I did that poll, you know, because I have my, my profile pic and I was like I'm not changing that Rishi emblem until they come back, yeah Right. So I asked everybody obviously there was one person, it was so, so cute because they reposted it and they, they put in Japanese you know, like directions for other people, so I had to translate.

Speaker 2:

But it was funny because they were like Sarah son putting a poll. I think there's only one right answer it was too funny. I don't even have one.

Speaker 1:

I said, oh, hello, yes, but yeah, I want the boys.

Speaker 2:

But I was like really Two percent of you. It's just because you're too lazy, you're not like excited Like I'm like. I will not change this till Rishi comes back.

Speaker 1:

Exactly. I thought that was going to stay 100 percent and I'm like why is Sarah putting this out there? We know the outcome is going to be 100.

Speaker 2:

And when it ended I'm like what was Nino looking at this? I don't want to go.

Speaker 1:

I don't want to get out of hiatus.

Speaker 2:

He doesn't even have a profile pic. Oh my God, Too funny.

Speaker 1:

I'm thinking it was Nino and his manager she name again. Oh man.

Speaker 2:

OK, so we are in fact doing some singles today. Yes, yes, this was fun too. Yes, definitely, are we going to go in order? How did you want to?

Speaker 1:

Let's go in order. Ok, what's going on?

Speaker 2:

Because the last one, yeah, that's cool, okay, provided we have the same order. I think we should. Yeah, I think so too.

Speaker 1:

The same playlist, so it should be it should be girl group, boy group, boy band, yes, well, well, not man band, let's like okay band. Yeah, because I'm thinking I'm like no way I'm in it's more older. All right, so do you want to start with that one?

Speaker 2:

Sure, go ahead All right. So we are going to start off with G idol, super lady, and what I love about this is we had just talked about so, so young being accepted into Comka, the Korean music copyright association. Yes, so it's awesome, because she helped write this song. She has writing credits and everything, so that's just that makes it even more awesome.

Speaker 1:

Right.

Speaker 2:

Love, love, love this song it's so empowering right.

Speaker 2:

Yes, you feel so strong it is. It's like I love the beginning, that that car starts up and you hear it sort of take off, yeah, and I was like, but I didn't see them in the car taking off. I saw the car pull away and they're there and they come strutting at you because that opening music is like yeah, they're catwalking at you or something. So that's just awesome. So they're, they're walking towards you, wind blowing their hair and they're like sassy and telling you how it is. Oh, yeah, right, this. The drums have an awesome cadence for the sort of going along with the walking thing. Then, at 37 seconds, they start their harmonies, which they're so good at.

Speaker 1:

Oh my god, these girls have great voices.

Speaker 2:

Awesome vocals and then at 54 seconds in your face base, Wow, oh yeah, they just. It's like kaboom drop and there's like sirens electric drum kit, gritty synth. I mean, they're just like oh yeah.

Speaker 2:

This is such a power song. I love it and it's just goes along, you know, sort of repeats, that that process of building up to the base thing. And then they have this like decrescendo is the only way I can describe it where it's like bam, bam, bam, bam, bam bam. It's just going down and it's like it's so gritty grinding that music down into you, being like here you go, Just jamming it to you, jamming it to you guys, and they're saying things like well, the opening line, oh please, I am on top, super lady.

Speaker 1:

Oh yeah.

Speaker 2:

So what a way to open it oh yeah, oh yeah, here I am Right.

Speaker 1:

That's what I'm talking about.

Speaker 2:

That's starting, and like in your face they say things you know. I had to translate because I was like what exactly? We're busy talking about? Love? This is war. Anyone can see that we are stronger than Superman. Yes, sir, I got super power.

Speaker 2:

I know he has some really awesome like lyrics, right, yeah, I mean, it really is all about like we have the strength, we have the power and we don't need no Superman because we're super ladies. And I love how they leave it, they're like we are, and then it just starts, stops. They don't say, super lady, that one last time. You're almost expecting it, and then it's just like you're like yeah, like drop, they're awesome.

Speaker 1:

They're awesome. You know we love G idol. They're amazing group and of course I know the underrated and not well put out there.

Speaker 2:

Not promoted as much as exactly.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, you know when I started hearing that, I'm like I'm hearing elements of rock, drama, bass, trap, dubstep. The song for me is like it's kind of like a club anthem, but also it must have for your workout playlist because let me tell you that can give you a workout, that's music and also should be in your get ready to slay playlist, absolutely. I was just thinking you know, you know runway, yes, get ready to slay. It's like we have said, it's a female empowerment song. Again, when the girls, when the girls, when the lyrics just starts with the I'm on the top. Super lady, you know very well this is going to be on your face. I never lose. Oh, my God, not goddess, yes.

Speaker 1:

Not goddess, I'm a god. I was like, yes, you are, and I never die. Geez, just right there in the beginning. Cause, like you know, this is why I love the idol, because they are not your conventional female group. No, definitely not. They are bold and they push boundaries. Love their vocal deliveries. Oh, amazing. And the production is just on point. This just Amazing, amazing song. Yes it is.

Speaker 2:

That's all I have to say.

Speaker 1:

It's just like you know it's like hearing that and then things happening to us and I'm like, oh, this is, this is like my anthem this week because of all this stuff, that stuff that we're going through, yeah, I was gonna say the timing was perfect. That's why I was like I need to say what I need to say, because it needs to be said, because I know they're hearing us.

Speaker 2:

No, this one definitely. Every time I heard it I had to turn it up and I was like, yeah, I'm a super lady, it's just, it is super ladies, so strong, so.

Speaker 1:

I am, we're super ladies, oh yeah, anyways. So anything else about the adult super lady, nope.

Speaker 2:

I'm good you want to go with the next song. I recommend.

Speaker 1:

Yeah. Next song we have in fear in Ferno, in Fierno, in Fierno, with rookie and massive, the rampage which they have not dropped much. I'm glad this is going on. This is a collaboration with one of their senpai's. This song is, you know, the idiom trap, dubstep, very LDH classic. They like to bring all kinds of dance beats and like and components into their music. In this song we have the sweet vocals of rookie, of course, which he's so awesome, but then we have the intense hip hop delivery from the boys of massive and the music composition. Another one Chef's kiss Awesome. This got me like jumping, just going cray cray. You know it's just like. You know it's inferno. You know everybody's like jumping or whatever, and just going cray cray. That was my vibe for this song, oh yeah.

Speaker 2:

No, definitely Definitely dance anthem of some sort. I sort of saw this. It was like just a day or two ago that it occurred to me that I was like this is the song that comes on when the raging party is like people are like winding down and they're like, oh, I'm so spent, and then they put this song and everybody just gets amped up again. And what I found interesting too is this has that same sort of decrescendo bump, a bump down in it, the same as G idle song there. So I was like, wow, everybody's doing that.

Speaker 1:

Now that like that going down Marching band, we know we didn't discuss that, but they both have the, you know the drums of a marching band yeah, yeah, the cadence.

Speaker 2:

So and I like that the beginning has sort of like this weird, I don't know, it's like a stopwatch clicking, like they're counting something down for you.

Speaker 2:

So it's listen for that. It's really like interesting, with all the little dun, dun, dun, dun, dun, you know, thrown in here and there and like I don't know crazy, crazy sound. This is another one, though the, where the bass just comes in and it's like boom, you know. You start out with that tick, tick, tick, tick, tick, and you know and you're like what's going on, what's in, and then all of a sudden it's like you're like wake up, right Loads of the percussion, so many different, like you were saying, so many different sounds being incorporated into it. But then about 30 seconds in the softer vocals, the smooth voice that you got going on, yes, so just awesome.

Speaker 2:

And then 42 seconds that grind down starts that Mwah, mwah, mwah I, I don't know Like it's. It's an awesome sound, yeah, so sort of like nineties, two thousands, like that. Everybody was sort of using that for a while, and then it went away and now it's coming back. And it's awesome though, because it is it sort of gives you this like get down and like yeah ready to jump up again and dance around? Cause this one.

Speaker 1:

it's definitely like I said this is the one that, like that sound, ignites like a fire in you. But inferno, you know like, like, you're like, wow, like, yeah one explode, yeah.

Speaker 2:

So that's why I'm saying it's like it's the song that sort of gets everybody going again, when the party's sort of feeling like, oh, we can't do anymore, nope, here you go. But some of the the lyrics on this one too, though, hmm, I don't know it's. It's sort of like saying you know, just, whatever comes your way, whatever fires are going on, you can keep going, drink up your fears in tears. So just fight through, burn it up, set the world on fire, inferno, and just just keep going, man, cause that's all you can do. And I want to find a paradise that has fallen into the sky and escape with you. So they're like let the world burn, we're together, we can do anything. So, yeah, let's dance the night away, boom, boom. So yeah, no, this one, just this, is like a live life to the fullest. And you know, no matter what fires crop up all around, you, keep going, keep dancing, live it up.

Speaker 1:

I love it Next song.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, sure. So this is the formerly Kanjani eight, now known as super eight. Yay, and the song is Anthropos. This is wow. This one like started, took me back. There's so so many sounds to it and so many feelings. It's like 80s rock, anthem, epic rock tune, almost like heavy metal. The base on this is insane and that's because the person who wrote it, tetsuya Kitani. He's a singer, songwriter, lyricist, composer and arranger, but he was also the bassist for a group I'm going to say this so wrong probably but Saju Nohana. So I'm pretty sure he played the bass on this, or at least he wrote it for someone. It is one of the most insane bass lines I've ever heard. I love like. It's really Really. You have to have your headphones and you really have to listen, because there's times where you're like it's just sort of going along, doing it, sing and then all of a sudden that bassist is like ripping it.

Speaker 2:

Oh my, it's awesome. This is like the guitar comes grinding in at one point like totally shredding. Same thing, like whoever's playing this is just immensely talented. It is, like I said, 80s vibe and I believe. Isn't this theme song for an anime? It's going to be yeah, okay.

Speaker 1:

It's going to be the same thing with Inferno. Inferno is going to be also a part of a oh no not anime. It's another movie that they do like a. Whatever LDH do Okay.

Speaker 2:

It's for that, for their, their, their. But this one I believe, when I was looking at the stuff, that I was trying to decipher what it was saying. I think it's for an anime called Firefighter Daigo yeah, Rescue in orange, and it so has that like action anime vibe to it. Yes, I was. When I first started listening to it before I looked up all the stuff about, I was like this should be like anime music or drama music. It's so got the right feel for it. You know, you can see the whole opening sequence someone like running down the road, cars screeching, it's awesome. So this is just like sort of just carry on despite whatever struggles are happening. Yep, forget about yesterday's problems, forget about today's problems and just keep going. I think there's lines about you know, I want to hold your hand and and run from yesterday, things like that. Again, it's sometimes hard to find lyrics with all of this stuff. They actually do have it on the Spotify. You can see the lyrics, but of course we have to Google translate.

Speaker 2:

And that's not always the best.

Speaker 1:

No, it's not accurate girl, and we're like what, what does that?

Speaker 2:

say Really Well, something. You know, I ate well and the store was good and I'm like what? I don't know what that means. So that was sort of the just from the lyrics that I got was like just hold my hand and we're going to run from yesterday and this is just so cool and I like to think that, possibly because, sorry, super 8 can play instruments, maybe they played some of this. I'm not sure, I don't know exactly where they fell into the whole thing. But what I also like about this is years and years ago I remember they were always sort of used almost as like comic relief compared to the other groups in the organization. You know, everything was sort of cartoony and fun with them and I like that. This is sort of like a serious gritty, like showing that they can do more than just be like funny and do cutie humorous songs. So this is just awesome and so cool for their new name, because we had talked about their name changing and it was like the next day it happened.

Speaker 1:

I know we were like I mentioned it on the last episode. I'm like you're supposed to be changing the name and they were looking. I'm like, oh my god, not yet. And of course it happened right after we were done recording.

Speaker 2:

Yeah.

Speaker 1:

So I was like OK, whatever. But so, yes, our, our, our Kansai Senpais, because this is the eldest group under Starto, that is, in the Kansai region. Actually, they're the ones that if there's a new group in Kansai, they of course are the ones that seems to prepare them for it. But we have, we know from the Kansai region. You know, groups under Starto. They always have the comedic. They're very in the comedic. It's, I guess it's just what I have understand is part of the region of just being a very free, happy, go lucky community population. Also from something that I have read Kanjani, which is now super eight. It was supposed to be rocking and cut. Oh, really, yes, so maybe that's why there's that turn. And I usually saw more dramatic music that I have heard. Most of the popular ones are more love songs or like something more ballad, ballad.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, well, I was going to say, and I think usually it focuses more on the vocal than on the actual so music behind it.

Speaker 1:

So this was they wanted to make the time, the director wanted or the creator wanted to make this as a rocking anchor. So that's awesome. But you know, I'm so happy that they're now on streaming so I can now listen from their older music until now to see how they have evolved, because definitely they have evolved. You know, I'm sure a song made from like what there are been around since 2002. Were they before?

Speaker 2:

Oh, I can't remember.

Speaker 1:

I would. I have read, I think they have been together since 2002. And if it's so, yeah, that has to change.

Speaker 2:

You know, actually that's very possible because from their name they were originally an eight member group. They're down to five. Yeah, the three people that left were all juniors, with, like Arashi and Cat Tune. Ok, so they must have, yeah, debuted around the same time.

Speaker 1:

OK, I think so you know, the Senpai, the Kansai Senpais, you know, rocking out now with, of course, with a new name and a new approach to music.

Speaker 1:

Yes especially with this song and I get, like I said, I can't wait to hear the older song so I can then appreciate, you know, their involvement. Of course this song is just how positive vibes their voice delivery. It's more like storytelling than just you know some of your rock rock you know, like hair band type, yeah, they're more like like the melodic and whatever. Right, I see them more as this. This is more of entertainers than a band Super 8, you know their. Their vibe is always been more of being an entertainer, more. You know there's some groups you get a certain vibe. To me they're more like entertainers you know, like.

Speaker 1:

let me give another example. I'm going with Hyde. He's not an entertainer. He's, to me is not. He's more like talent. I don't know, but it doesn't give me the same vibe.

Speaker 2:

Well, it's different when With Lark on Seal. It's different, but that's more like to me.

Speaker 1:

I see them more like a rock band. Right, then I will see you know Super 8. Super 8 might be playing like rocking, but they're more of a entertainment.

Speaker 2:

More visual, you mean?

Speaker 1:

How can I put it? But it's not, it's not your tip, it's not a rock band. To me they're not a rock band. Yeah, they are a band, but I don't see them like a rock band. I see them like entertainers.

Speaker 2:

Okay, okay, I think I sort of see what you're saying Like, well, that's what I was saying.

Speaker 1:

Like they're instruments.

Speaker 2:

Outside of what I usually think of for them, right, okay, the sound and the everything about it is, yes, very. I'm not overly familiar with them Because, again, the whole problem of never really having a whole lot of access to the music and all that. So what I remember, like I said, was, you know, costumes and fun and sort of being like the comedic group as opposed to like the super music driven groups.

Speaker 1:

Which it just feels more like entertainment, Right?

Speaker 2:

so this actually is like I don't know. They put their whole hearts into singing this and just to let you know they all play.

Speaker 1:

They all play and sing. Oh, really yes.

Speaker 2:

I didn't get that far into looking into it. But I was like I know they all play instruments and I know they all can sing, so I wasn't sure if they did because, like I said, with that Tetsuya there right in the he must have wrote it for him. Yeah.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, so Maruyama went up on that bass I know. Dang, that's like incredible and they all sing, because even the drummer does. Everybody sings.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, they do.

Speaker 1:

You know, we have, it's a guitar. We have vocals, guitars, keyboards, drums and, of course, bass. Yes, and everybody sings. It's not like you know, the drummer hardly sings. No, he's there too, like belching out the lyrics as well. Yes, please, they talk about talent. You know it's hard, it is oh yeah, definitely Playing drums and well, playing an instrument and singing, I don't know.

Speaker 2:

for me the drums are different because you have so much in front of you, well, and you're exerting a lot more energy playing drums True Than a guitar, bass, keyboards and keyboards, Like you're. You're doing a workout and trying to sing. Yeah, that's insane. Hello, so that's awesome. I'm glad to hear that because I was like I wonder if they're playing this because they, they have the ability. I just wasn't sure if something this grand was going to be attainable for them.

Speaker 2:

So that's awesome, that's amazing Shred in that bass. Wow yes, that was just yes. So awesome so congratulations guys.

Speaker 2:

I loved how to these songs were so different but, like I said, the Super Lady in Inferno had that drop in sound. We have the dance vibes here Right, and then Inferno and Anthropos have that rockin' element sort of close but different. So they all went together in a very odd way. Yeah, like two dance things and then two sort of rock things, that Inferno being sort of that middle ground, yeah. But just all awesome groups, amazing talents.

Speaker 1:

Yes.

Speaker 2:

So definitely check them all out.

Speaker 1:

You know what I checked what Anthropos mean Greek for human?

Speaker 2:

Oh, ok, I didn't take Greek, I didn't take Latin at all.

Speaker 1:

Which it was cool. You know that. Now you can really feel the vibe of what the song is. Awesome. Oh yeah, it's all about humans here. Super ladies, inferno. They're gonna take the Super Ladies, they're gonna take those and put them in the Inferno and then we have our Super Eight Anthropos. You know humans, they're just only humans. You know humans and the Super Ladies that are here like gonna kick ass.
