Like, you know, there's they're a boy band, but not a boy band anymore, but they didn't, you know. So um one of them is actually a girl group that one of my listeners introduced to me, and they've been around now since 2022, I believe. Oh, I thought 24. 24, yes, okay, 24.

Isna’s Metronome And House Nostalgia

Um, so let's chat about Isna. Okay. Since I just already started, you know, this new girl group for us. Uh, this song is gonna be Metronome. It's actually from their EP Set the Tempo that actually came out on June 8th. So I know it's not a July, but I mean we never talked about them. No, we and this is a really good song. This is my favorite, you know. It's House. House Temple. The girls' voices are lovely, and they're not how do I call it? Not the whiny voice. I mean, there's not like a strong hip-hop going on here, but they're more, they're more um, they're more feminine, more, more delicate, but not in a way that is whiny. It's just their voices are so well blended, and with this song that is even though it's dancy and some parts that are choppy, but it's not, I don't, it's just like they have a really good tone. Yeah, they do. Their voices are just really good tone. I know the song is gonna be the usual uh for you know house rhythm. I love house rhythm. I just I think you even told me or actually said in one of the episodes that house music makes people happy. That is being, you know, said listen to house music if you feel depressed.

Yeah, well, you know, or your episode. Yeah, that's it's that tempo, it's the the beat that sort of just moves you moves you up, it's gets your blood pumping.

And it's so nostalgic for the Bozaba because that we were, you know, in our dance club era when house was popular, you know. That EEM is so like influential and nostalgic that when listening to these groups doing that sound, I'm like, I love like yes, give me more on that, yes. And of course, it's catchy, it's repetitive. The choral choreo choreo is uh no the chorus is very like designed to feel of hypnotic, dance-like, of course, because at one part towards the end, when they had throw up that beat. Oh my god. I'm like, what? That's when I get in the hypnotic part, and I'm like, where am I now? This is awesome. I feel like I'm in the dance floor and I'm like, yay! I don't know. Everything looked like electric pink to me.

It's very like electric pink, and like, I don't know. It's like if Barbie was there, it would have been her song too. Right? It's a Barbie party, yeah. Exactly. It just fell that way. And oh my goodness. I don't know, just the girls have I love. I'm like, I'm actually falling in love with this group. They're so good. How about you? What the your feels now that you tell me that you also saw like fell pink.

Yeah, no, I definitely did. But I liked I liked that sort of slow start, the the dreamy synth stuff. Yeah, and just sort of not quite whispery, but not overly strong vocals. You know, they were sort of leading you into this, and then all of a sudden the drum machine and the voices build up, and it's just like boom, they drop that beat, and you've got your electro house going on, and you're like, whoa, that like what a transition, you know? Yeah, um, very trance dance kind of mix going on.

You can definitely get lost in it, just lost.

Right. And I think, and that's what the point of it being a metronome, because it's just, you know, metronome and the music to keep the beat. It's a constant, you know, physics thing, whatever. So the music is just mesmerizing because it keeps you moving at this steady beat, this steady rate, just back and forth. And that's sort of you know what they're saying. They're like, you're moving without thinking about it because the music takes control, gets you moving like a metronome, they say. And that's exactly it. Like you just you can't help but keep moving back and forth to it. I I it's very much again the whole trance house techno, yeah, dance thing that we remember. So the the music has an influence over you. Yeah. And it does, it takes control. Yep. And you just want to let yourself get carried away in this sort of like rhythm of your heart, I guess. You know, like the the beat of your heart. And you don't have to concentrate on anything, don't fixate on anything, just let the music happen to you. And that's what this I feel like that's what it's sort of all about. But then, like on the darker side of it, you can see it as the music taking control, like it just overpowers your senses and you're left with nothing but the ability to move to the music.

You know, so it's like it's really funny because it's like a positive, but also sort of like, well, wait a minute, but I'm just completely it is hypnotic.

Yeah, it it's like it does, it just completely overtakes your your senses and your self-restraint and everything, and you're just like, you know.

But I like to sort of stay on the lighthearted side of things and just be like, Yeah, it's just like a good thing. Yeah. Forget about your worries and let the music take over. Not that the music is going to take you over.

Right. It's like take a pause. Let's just like have some fun with ourselves and just listen to this awesome music and then exactly. I was just thinking, I'm but let me tell you, I'm not like really hard to take it off repeat because it was one of my repeat songs that I'm like, oh my god, I really love this song. There's another song that I it wasn't it's not included on this one, but it just also was released this week, actually on July 11th. And not gonna say the name of the the group of the song, but I'm really liking it. I'll let you know which okay. But I was just like, wow, okay, love. I'm like, why did you release now instead of last week? So we can listen to it because I love it.

And uh it's you know, it's I'm very happy. It's been a while since the group have dropped any any any new releases. Because on OKH I've been playing 3XL for the for quite some time. Fans, I I like it that you do that, but I'm like, man, when are they gonna drop something new? And I need I need it, you know, I need people to hear it, you know? Um so yes, so Bugs Life. Ah, this is, you know, since they have gone to the new company, to to be, and they since then you can tell that they're like, we're a complete different type of musician since then. They might be in a trio and kind of in an idol group, but this is a different type. I don't want to consider them idol groups anymore. This is not an idol group, this is completely different. You know, they have evolved from that. And um, I'm happy that the guys are more into making their own music, produce their own music, produce videos, you know, um, you know, be part of the lyrics, and also but dance moves. I think one of them, I don't quote me on it, but I can't remember. Maybe there was some dancing one of them did for one of their older songs. You think it might have been Kishi, I think. Right? Right? Yeah, I think. And also love that they have found their true voice. Because this is not the voice that they used to have before. Absolutely. Which he was very, very prince-like, you know, very different, and you know, this is like we're men. Um, this is who we are actually. This is I bel for them, this is who we really are. We wanted to make this kind of music. This is our voice right now. And of course, I'm loving it because Kishy, Kishi and his demented rap. Oh, LG. I've been loving it since he dropped that voice like in the beginning.

Yeah, this is even this is even a little beyond their initial, you know, debut release, whatever wrote. Like that was intense, and we were like, wow, this is just so wild and so different for what we know for them. Yeah, so yeah. But even this is like taking yet another step.

How do they feel about this, this, this new this transition? Yes, yeah, because you gotta remember everybody evolves, musicians evolve, they're not gonna be sounding the same. They even themselves are like probably feel bored doing the same thing over and over again. They evolve, they gotta feel fresh, they gotta feel like, you know, and this this is for them. We're we're reaching things that we want to do, and we're putting it out there if you like it or not. You know, there's always an audience for you, and there's definitely an audience for this sound. Oh yeah. Um from the episode, Sarah found out that it's inspired by funk, but not F-U and K is P H O N K music, which is more towards we found out it was more towards American hip-hop south bow the border kind of music.

Yeah. So it's it so for them to actually, because this is something that you just need to look for. You know, this is not like readily available pop, because this is not pop, this is underground music. And you can tell the boys are well the guys, they're not boys anymore. The guys are like, I'm looking for something fresh, something different than that what is out there in the pop world. Do do I feel like they wanna use this to bring it into the pop world? Maybe, or do they wanna say, hey, this is what we like, this and we want to present this to you. We hope that you enjoy what we're looking and what we're evolving to, which is getting ourselves out of that pop genre. Because this is definitely not pop. No, not this is definitely not pop, especially with the slower tempo and sometimes really happen, um, fast and choppy. The swagger that these guys have, they each have like a you know their own flavor. I do like that they're also switching it from again the pop more into the African beats, the Latino beat. Oh, come on. The lat I think they know that the Latinas or the Latinos, they like this type of music, and then we eat it up, which we do. Some melodic vocals, but not much. No, this is very strong, very, very strong. Okay, so I'm saying way a lot about this song because you know what? I feel so happy and like I just feel very thrilled and happy for this song that they have that uh Jinguji has actually created. That's which I was like, I'm surprised and I'm happy. I'm proud, I'm proud, I'm very proud. How about you, my friend? Before I keep talking.

Well, I was gonna say, I think, like you were saying, they've been they've been searching for sounds that are different from what's out there currently. So it's not like this whole funk idea is new, but it's new to them and it's coming to a new audience. People who weren't, you know, listening back in the day or whatever. And I think that in many ways they were very much meant for this sound. When you listen to how they sing it, how they rap it, how they present it, they're very much embracing it, and it's very much, I feel, natural to them. Like, I don't know, it was really literally like it was made for them. You know what I mean? So they they've pulled this off amazingly. It's very um like digital matrix futuristic sounding, blending the whole punk RB hip-hop with the distorted, erratic, you know, synth going on, a hint of Latin beats. It just it creates this really strong, fierce, like dance beat, slightly menacing, slightly overpowering, but keeps moving. And lyrically, I like how I know that we had talked about there was a little blurb about how they said it was in relation to them and their fans. But like when you really look at the lyrics, I was like, it's kind of this metaphor of their lives, right? And how their music and them are being studied and examined like little bugs on a you know, magnifying glass through this lens of social media. So they're like because they'd mentioned a couple of things, you know, SNS and all of these different. So you're like, oh, so they're talking about, you know, it's a bug's life because we're being we're so small in this gigantic scope of things, and we're being studied and examined. The fans get studied and examined, you know, you think about how people who aren't into a certain type of music view the fans of a certain type of, you know, so they're like, we're all just these bugs being investigated. And then you also have like the whole idea of the digital bug, right? Right. When things are going along and then something happens, glitches, goes, you know, haywire, and you're like, what?

Come on. Okay, so this actually the song that we're talking is from their latest album, but this song is morning. Now, their newest album right now, it's We Made. Actually, it's an EP, right? Yeah, it's an EP. That one came out on July 6th.

It's a different tone of them. It's just like if you're really talking to them. Special, you know, like, hey, morning. You know, like you were passing by, you're like, hey, whatever, you know. It's light, it's laid back, of course, very poppy, the pop sound, not poppy, but pop sound. Breezy, very summery. You know, like it's great to listen to. Gas some funky rhythms as well. But the even those funky, but it's relaxed, groove is very carefree. I love the messages. Um, it's mellow, but also energetic. It's just it has all that, like on like almost like it's like melodic and then upbeat and then this and then that, and it's just like it's love. And of course, love their voices. They're very like sunny and bright, just like a morning. And they're not like they're like morning, good morning. It's like morning, morning. It's yeah, it's like talking to your neighbor that you know, your or your friend. You do things, you know, like good day, and you go good things, and the lyrics are also bright, and things that you do, like going for a run or doing that. Love. It's definitely a song that you should wake up to.

Sometimes, you know, it's a little hectic and you're running late to work or whatever, and then it's like mellow because you're just hanging out eating lunch or whatever, you know, and then it's yeah, it's so it goes the full range. But I'm sorry, were you done yet? No, yeah, I'm done. Go for it. Okay. So what I liked about this is that it was sort of like this sluggish opening, like you felt like it's plodding along, and there's some fingers snapping just lightly, and then all of a sudden they clap, like, wake up, bop, bop, and you're like, whoa. So it's it's like the morning creeping up on you. You know, you wake up and you're sort of like, uh, and your alarm is like clap, clap, clap, get up. Um, so the music just sort of builds on itself, more instruments, more vocals, and it just keeps going. So it's like, I don't know, this sort of crafty and cunning sounding sneak up on you on your daily life as they talk about their daily life. So, you know, it's sort of like every line is sort of a pep talk for themselves, too. You know, yeah, like do a stretch, take your stuff, what do I want for lunch? Maybe I'll just get this. You know what I mean? Like it's like just little things to be like, do this, do that, just keep going. But what I really love is the line when they say uh no drama, no reels, no ex, just life. So they're like, you know, when you wake up, don't bother looking at your phone. Right. Don't go to social media, don't even look at your day planner, your calendar, nothing. Right, just get up, enjoy the sun or the rain, whatever's happening. Just enjoy the moment you're in without thinking about anything else. And it's so especially the like drama.

Like if it's really important, you already know you have to go do it, right? So don't bother opening your calendar and being like, what's on the agenda today? Just go through and enjoy what's around you in the moment. And it's it's awesome. I really just think they're basically like, don't get absorbed in the social media gobbledygook and nonsense and just enjoy life.

That chemistry that he has with the song and just his vocals. The sleek blend of contemporary RB and the pop. Wow. The production on this is so good. Oh my god, so good. And I mean, why not? You know? I mean, it just it has some warm scents, just the textures, the it's just very atmospheric, creating like a cinematic, like nighttime mood. Oh, this smooth verses, he's just emotional. I I like oh, his falsettos, come on, his falsettos. I was that's what is giving me goosebumps, and I'm like, wow. I'm like, wow. Expressive vocals, and just like I like that the music, it's really like highlighting his vocals. It's like this song is so flush and just oh my god, loving and exciting as well. It wow. I don't want to say something too nasty, no, no, not nasty, but like it leaves me like wow. Stealing your air, right? Yeah, it literally, yes, because it's like wow, okay, not gonna say anymore because I can just go on like this one is so loving. It's just like he was romance romancing you. I just want to say a different word than the one I'm thinking, romancing you with his vocals, and I was all in there. The romance was there. It was really a little more than romance. Yeah, that's why I say I don't want to get to that level, girlfriend. No, you know what I'm trying to say, my mind. Girl, like you feel your temperature rise listening to this and girl, there's a line about like driving in the car, let's put the top down because you're like, yeah, it's getting too hot in here.

Hello, that I was like, wow, yes, my I mean, my boy, my man, my man, he's a man, he's a man, but layback grooves just felt so intimate, you know, like a late night, very intimate, and I mean, come on, they got ways, and they're like telling you what to do, and the lyrics are so much in English that you just that's why you're like, Yeah, this is my song, this is my song, because you know, they're trying to get my heart, my soul, everything, snatch my wig. I don't know. I always say that I don't know why I say snatch my wig. But the romanticism again is just they really want you like I'm only yours, and you're only mine, you know, comma song. And you just like, yeah, you you do have ways to like, you know, I got ways to make you stay. Yeah, they did in this song, definitely, because it was also on my repeats.

Well, I was gonna say, so this is another one that has sort of a duality, like for me, listening to it, because that opening, the violins, it's sort of like a minuet, which at the time of the minuet set was a very sensual dance, okay, because you were touching each other. So, so it's like this minuet, right? And then it gives way to the the more modern synth and the R and B and dance rhythm sounds, but those violins keep going. And they're all they're they're also kind of like a dark gothic violin. It's at times sounds almost a little sinister, a little dark. You're like, what's wrong with these violins? So that's where I where it's like sort of happy and and light, but then also a little dark. The sound just sort of propels you through this like raw search for pleasure. That's the most subtle way I can put it. Because the way they sing to you that I've got ways is also got some duality to it, right? They're sort of lulling you and convincing you and sweet talking you, but in another way, they're also saying, I can control you because I've got ways to make you stay. Right? So you're like, Woo. This the message is both like sexy and sinister, right? Because they're not gonna let you go. No, they're like I got ways to get. Gut ways. So I'm like, this is just another one that like it gives you the chills and it puts you through the emotions, and you're like, whoo, whoo, because is this yeah, yeah, the night before? Is this the next morning? Like, what's going on? Right. And everybody knows where I'm coming from with that. Right. Because that's what I think this is about. Like, I've got ways to make you stay. And yeah, I don't know.
